20 Years in Business and Still Going Strong!

Scott Moore |

Moore Brothers Music was started in 2004, at a time when we'd reek of cigarette smoke after each bar gig. (Smoking was banned in public places in Washington the following year, thank goodness!) MySpace was the hottest social media platform, and nobody had heard of Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest, Twitter, or X. There were no smart phones, but the iPod was very popular. Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Governator of California and Jay Leno was the host of The Tonight Show.

2004 was also considered the beginning of Web 2.0 giving rise to social media platforms like MySpace and the rest. Prior to 2004, websites were mostly static pages and did not contain user-generated content. When we first opened for business, all of our software sat on our computers in our store. Now all of our software is online.

We've always tried our best to find the best technological solutions to help us manage our lessons and our business. Our first lesson scheduling system was built on a MS Access database. Payments were done in the POS system and were not connected to the lesson schedule. (It took forever to reconcile each month!) When we finally did launch our first website, it was a single static page that was always out of date. I believe we've had 5 different websites since.

We've been using Shopify for the last several years but haven't really put much effort into it until now. We've now invested in a new theme with far better functionality and speed. We've also incorporated our lesson scheduling software into our website to make it easier to schedule lessons and manage your lesson account at your convenience.

We'll also be adding the ability to register for recitals directly from the website as well as order lesson books and supplies that can either be shipped to you or picked up in our store. We also hope to add a lot more products online that we just can't fit in our store.

We hope you enjoy the new website experience. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you find any issues that need fixing.
