In addition to teaching piano lessons, Andrew enjoys helping students of all skill levels to write their own music. An active part of the Seattle music scene since he moved here in 2010, Andrew helps present a weekly music series and manage a local record label, Table and Chairs Music. In addition to writing and performing in his own solo project, he can be found as a sideman in several other bands at any given time.
Andrew believes that student engagement is the most important element a teacher brings to music lessons. Everyone is capable of realizing their musical goals, but many students lose interest, particularly during the intimidating early stages. By setting goals that are both realistic and challenging, Andrew has helped students read music, improvise with other people, and even compose their own music. Long term lesson plans are shaped by what styles students enjoy playing, including pop, classical, jazz, folk, and rock.
